In a stunning display of skill and composure, Elton Zulu clinched his second amateur golf title at the Roland Park Open in Zvishavane, finishing with a commanding four-stroke lead at 4-under par, 212.
The victory solidified Zulu’s growing reputation in Zimbabwe’s amateur golf scene, adding another prestigious title to his collection after his Midlands Amateur Championship win earlier this year.
The 2025 Roland Park Open was a thrilling three-day event, with Zulu overcoming a rocky start on day one to surge ahead with an impressive second-round 5-under par 67. That performance left him just two strokes behind overnight leader, Godfrey Zulu, setting up a thrilling final day showdown.
“After the first round, I knew I had to make up some ground, but I remained focused and just played my game,” Zulu said after his victory. “The 67 on day two was a big confidence booster, and I knew I could finish strong.”
Indeed, Zulu did just that. His final round 71 was enough to fend off the competition and claim a comfortable victory. The 25-year-old’s steady play over the last 18 holes showcased his poise under pressure, keeping his rivals at bay despite gusty conditions and the ever-present tension.
Godfrey Zulu, who had led the field after round one, struggled to maintain his momentum in the final round. After shooting a solid 68 on day two, Godfrey’s 77 in the final round left him tied for second with teenager Darlington Chikanyambidze, who finished with scores of 74, 68 and 74 for an even-par total.
“Elton played some great golf out there. I tried to push, but I just couldn't find my rhythm today,” Godfrey admitted after the round.
Chikanyambidze, 19, showed maturity beyond his years, making a push for the title but ultimately settling for a share of second place. The young golfer’s even-par score reflected his steady consistency throughout the tournament and his ability to handle the pressure of a top-level event.
