In a stunning display of talent and composure, 14-year-old Munesu Chimhini announced his arrival on the local amateur golf scene by clinching his maiden title at the Hillside Masters Championship.

The St. George's College Form 2 scholar from Harare carded a remarkable final round of 6-under-par 67, securing a two-stroke victory at the Hillside Golf Club in Mutare on Sunday.

Chimhini finished the tournament with an impressive 5-under-par 214, with rounds of 76, 71, and that standout 67.

His masterful performance saw him outplay older and more experienced competitors, including 17-year-old Braydon Amm and 19-year-old Darlington Chikanyambidze, who tied for second place at 3-under-par 216 for the tournament.

Chikanyambidze carded 77, 67 and 72 while home course favourite Amm signed for 73, 72 and 71 in 54 holes.

Highly-rated US-based amateur Tariro November settled for fourth on 1-under 218 after rounds of 72, 68 and 78.

Chimhini is probably the youngest player to achieve this feat.

Despite the magnitude of his achievement, Munesu's post-win demeanor was remarkably grounded.

When asked how he felt about his first ZGA amateur circuit win, he simply stated, "I don’t feel anything."

This understated response reflects a unique mindset focused not on rivals, but on the game itself especially after shooting an astonishing 6 - under final round.

"I don’t think of a round of golf in terms of beating the other players. I think of beating the course," Munesu explained. "Yes, I wanted to beat the course and I told my caddy after the practice round that I would finish under par."

His final round brilliance was a testament to this philosophy.

"I just focused on playing the ball on the fairway and hitting the green in regulation. I relied on my 2 iron off the tee for better control. I also tried to focus on my putting and it went on fine, I guess."

Munesu, who started playing golf at the age of nine, has already amassed an impressive list of accolades, including the 2022 US Kids Golf NCBA Kenya Invitational, the 2024 US kids Golf Big 5 SA Open, the 2024 Junior Africa Championship SA, and another US kids Golf Big 5 SA Open in 2025.

He is also the reigning 2025 Chapman Golf Club Champion and has achieved a top 5 finish at the Daily Mail World Junior Championship in Spain.

His father, Shupi Chimhini, expressed immense pride in his son's Hillside Masters achievement.

"I am proud of the work that Munesu is putting into being the best he can be. I am happy he is trusting the process and respecting the 10,000-hour rule. He is beginning to see the results of that effort," he said.

He also highlighted the crucial role of St. George's College in nurturing Munesu's talent.

"It would be remiss not to mention the phenomenal support from his school, St George’s College, for instilling in him a strong work ethic and ensuring that he is able to put in the required level of effort in golf while still remaining fully engaged in team sports."

Notably, Munesu captains the Under-15 A Soccer Team and is the opening bowler for the Cricket Team.

"I believe what you are seeing now is part of a long bumpy road to greater things. However, it will take Munesu lots of discipline and continued hard work, willingness to learn and perseverance through the bad days and challenges to get to his full potential. When he gets there, I will be proud. For now, my focus is in nurturing his talent and supporting him on his journey."

For Munesu who is sponsored by Callaway, the big dream is clear.

"I want to play at the highest level of the game in the world."
