We are ready: Garanganga

Mutetwa will be making his debut at this stage, while Courtney is returning to the squad after recovering from an injury that saw him missing the Africa Group III event which earned Zimbabwe a spot into the World Group II play-offs.

TEAM Zimbabwe captain Takanyi Garanganga says his team is itching to go as the Davis Cup world Group II play-off against hosts Hong Kong beckons this weekend.

The two-day tennis event will be hosted at Hong Kong’s Victoria Park Stadium.

Team Zimbabwe is a mixture of experience and youth with the Lock brothers — Benjamin and Courtney — having been part of the squad for some time now, while rising stars Benedict Badza and Tatenda Mutetwa are still looking to make their mark at the prestigious stage.

Mutetwa will be making his debut at this stage, while Courtney is returning to the squad after recovering from an injury that saw him missing the Africa Group III event which earned Zimbabwe a spot into the World Group II play-offs.

Garanganga has retained his post as the non-playing team captain.

Hong Kong are ranked 54th in the word, while Zimbabwe are on position 73, but Garanganga is not reading much on the log standings.

“The team is excited about the tie and they are looking forward to it,” Garanganga said.

“The team has so much talent and we have a very good chance of putting a good show. Its not going to be easy but we are working hard for us to get good results. They have got good players who are young, fired up and also playing at home is always a good feeling. However, we are prepared for the challenge.

“We want to thank the supporters that are out there for Team Zimbabwe and we are always happy to have fans around cheering us.”

The team has been camping in Hong Kong for some days now to acclimatise ahead of the tournament.
