Cifoz drives for Impact

CIFOZ, a non-profit contractors' association established in 1915, boasts over 1,200 members across diverse building, civil engineering, and specialist contractor trades.

The Construction Industry Federation of Zimbabwe (CIFOZ) successfully hosted its networking golf tournament last Friday at the Royal Harare Golf Club.

The event aimed to foster connections within the industry and identify upcoming projects.

CIFOZ, a non-profit contractors' association established in 1915, boasts over 1,200 members across diverse building, civil engineering, and specialist contractor trades.

Standard Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) Director-General Cosmus Mukoyi graced the event as the guest of honor, attending both the tournament and the prize-giving ceremony.

During the ceremony, Mukoyi emphasized SAZ's commitment to supporting such initiatives and upholding standards within the construction sector.

"We are your National Standards Board, our mandate is to develop standards and promote their use for socio-economic development. We represent Zimbabwe at the international, continental, and regional level in terms of standardization issues," he said.

Mukoyi drew parallels between the worlds of golf and standardization, highlighting shared values.

"I am deeply inspired by the values that unite our two worlds, the world of golf and the world of standards, and these values are precision, integrity, and the relentless pursuit of excellence," he explained.

"At first glance, the world of standards and the world of golf may seem worlds apart, but if you look closer, you will find a shared commitment to consistency, fairness, and continuous improvement."

He further elaborated, "Just as a golfer relies on the rules of the game and the integrity of the course, industries around the world rely on standards to ensure quality, safety, and trust. Whether it is the calibration of golf equipment or the sustainability of course management, standards are the invisible framework that supports excellence."

Mukoyi also shared his recent triumph in Zanzibar, Tanzania, where he won the highly contested African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) Council elections.

ARSO is the continental board mandated by the African Free Continental Trade Area Agreement to develop standards that support trade across the African continent.

Mukoyi commended all the players who participated in the tournament.

"It is always important to participate for you to then become a winner. We are not celebrating winners only, but the spirit of the game, that is discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship," he remarked.

"These are the same principles that guide our work in setting and upholding standards that shape industries and improve lives. To the award recipients, your achievements are a testament to what can be accomplished when passion meets precision.

"As we look to the future, let us continue to raise the bar on the course and in our communities. Let us champion innovation, embrace sustainability, and uphold the highest standards in everything that we do. Every swing, every putt, every decision on the course reflects discipline, focus, and character, and just as a golfer must trust the rules of the game, industries must trust the standards that guide them," he said.

CIFOZ Chief Executive Officer Martin Chingaira expressed profound gratitude to all the sponsors during the prize-giving ceremony.

"I would like to acknowledge Zimtile, VTU Platinum, Linash, Masimba Construction, Glenrise, Winsten Precast, Belmont Construction, and Dulux for networking, for making the day a success," Chingaira stated.

He added that the event facilitated valuable connections, leading to identified projects that are not very expensive.

"Our investment in events like this reflects our confidence in Zimbabwe’s future and our commitment to creating shared value with our clients," Chingaira concluded.
