Its time to redeem ourselves-Wilson

The country is set to hold by-elections on December 7 following the recall of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators and councillors recently.

Democratic Officials Party (DOP) leader, Harry Wilson, says upcoming by-elections presents his party with a chance to redeem itself and boost its support base after the August elections.

The country is set to hold by-elections on December 7 following the recall of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators and councillors recently.

A CCC member, Sengezo Tshabangu, who claims to be the interim secretary general, recalled 15 Members of Parliament (MPs) and 17 councillors belonging to the opposition party.

Tshabangu said they had ceased to be party members.

Wilson, who contested in the presidential election, welcomed the recalls saying his party will contest the upcoming by-elections.

"It’s an advantage to the DOP and our candidates from Matabeleland as locals know that we have to vote for local people," Wilson said.

"We are suffering in Matabeleland because we have imposed, MPs and councillors.

"We are going to field genuine candidates who will bring results."

He added: "We don’t want MPs and councillors who disappear only to come back when it’s time for elections.  This is why we are contesting these by-elections so that we field locals."

"We are asking for the citizens to use their vote wisely, let’s not waste, this opportunity.”
