Stay away from drugs when life gets tough: Piwa

“The word of God is alive and active as it says in the bible in Hebrews 3 verse 7. I want to encourage people to put their trust in God and not obsess over possessions of this world in times of trouble,” she said.

RISING gospel musician Petronella Piwa believes people should turn to God and keep praying instead of resorting to drugs or getting involved in evil things when life gets tough.

In an interview with NewsDay Life & Style, Piwa said her hope was to become the light of the world, influencing people to escape from the grip of the devil.

“The word of God is alive and active as it says in the bible in Hebrews 3 verse 7. I want to encourage people to put their trust in God and not obsess over possessions of this world in times of trouble,” she said.

Piwa recently launched her six-track album titled Tererai Izwi which has the songs Anouya, Izwi Renyu, PaGorogotha, Ndisati Ndakuzivai, Ndinonyengetera and the title track Kana Manzwa Izwi that features budding musician Wedande.

The song Izwi Renyu portrays a devoted Christian who lives in accordance with God’s will and refuses to be swayed by their close friends. Using Jonah as an example, the song’s theme revolves around following what God says and aligning with His plans.

The song also emphasises that a committed Christian rejects bad influence and prays with the confidence that God will provide answers to everything.

It further talks of dishonest friends acting as the devil’s messengers, pushing one to practise witchcraft and taking shortcuts to accumulate wealth.

Through the song Ndinonyengetera, the musician, who is also a hairstylist, encourages those facing challenges to turn to Jesus for guidance. The song is a powerful testimony that urges Christians to fast and remain steadfast in prayer during hard times.

Despite the challenges faced in the competitive music industry, Piwa is happy with the progress she is making. She expresses this through the song Kana Manzwa Izwi, where she claims she has exceeded her followers' expectations.

The song explains how those who disobey God’s word will not rest in paradise after death.

Her track Jesu Anouya conveys the message that not everyone will be able to enter heaven because of their actions. Using a relatable metaphor that a farmer prepares his field and waits for the rains, through the song, Piwa further encourages listeners to get their relationship with God right and repent before it is too late.

Christians are reminded in the song, PaGorogotha, of their redemption through the crucifixion of Jesus and the happiness that comes from being freed from sins.

The song Ndisati Ndakuzivai describes how it can be challenging for society to accept someone who has changed, having been previously known for wrongdoing. The song also addresses issues like abortion and theft from the perspective of a repentant soul that regrets their previous immoral behaviour.

It talks of stigmatisation by society for one’s wrongdoing, expressing how hard it is to be accepted after repentence.
