Bayern Munich have reportedly set a deadline for Barcelona to finalise their pursuit of Robert Lewandowski.
The Poland striker’s future has been a hot topic ever since he publicly admitted he wants to leave the Bundesliga champions in this window.
His remarks did not go down well with Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn, who later said that “statements like that will not get him anywhere”.
Since then, reports suggest that two bids have been made by Barca for the goal-getter’s services, but both were turned down as they did not match the Bavarians’ valuation of their star attacker.
With Bayern refusing to budge from their reported €50 million (R852 million) price tag, it was claimed the forward could force an exit as a result, and was ready to refuse to take part in pre-season training with the German side.
Lewandowski has seemingly changed his stance on this, though, as he was spotted at club training on Wednesday morning, although Bild have described his body language during the session as that of someone who does not want to be there.
Now, according to Marca, the Bundesliga champions have decided they want to wrap up this saga and find a solution to the situation before this Saturday, 16 July, when the team for the 2022/23 will be presented.
It is understood that Barca are not interested in paying such a high fee for Lewandowski, who has one year left on his deal in Germany, while Bayern are not looking to negotiate at a lower cost. Despite this, the 33-year-old remains confident a deal can be agreed between the two clubs in the near future. Blaugrana boss Xavi Hernandez is also believed to want the transfer done as soon as possible so that Lewandowski can join Barcelona’s pre-season tour of the United States. — kickoff.
