. . . Nyamandwe joins training as chopping of Warriors Chan team continues

WARRIORS coach Zdravko Logarušić has made a surprise inclusion of Tawanda Nyamandwe into his training squad, as the chopping and changing of the team continues.

Twenty-eight players had initially been called into camp to prepare for the African Nations Championships (Chan) final early next month.

The tournament, runs from January 16 to February 7 in Cameroon.

Logarušić initially requested his assistants Lloyd Chitembwe and Tonderai Ndiraya to come up with the squad for camp since he did not watch any local league games last year.

But after watching the squad in friendly matches against local clubs in the past few days, the Croat feels there were some deserving players that were left out.

He has been chopping and changing the squad ever since, with the likes of Valentine Musarurwa, Valentine Kadonzvo, Collins Duwa, Phineas Bhamusi, Xolani Ndlovu and William Manondo getting dropped.

Three more players — goalkeeper Simba Chinani, Juan Mutudza and Ishmael Wadi — were sent home yesterday, bringing the total number of released players to 18.

Denver Mukamba tops the list of the players who have benefitted from the coach’s decision, as he has, together with Ronald Chitiyo, Richard Hachiro, Munyaradzi Diro-Nyanye, Carlos Mavhurume and Tafadzwa Njaravani, incorporated into the squad.

The latest players to be called into camp are Talent Chamboko and his Manica Diamonds teammate Nyamandwe.

The duo forced their way into the squad after impressing Logarušić during a Warriors’ friendly match against the Manicaland-based side early this week.

Nyamandwe, who has also played for Monomotapa, Motor Action, ZPC Kariba and Caps United in a career that spans over a decade, is returning to the Warriors fold at the age of 37.

More players are set to be incorporated into the Warriors squad, as there are more friendly matches lined up.

They played Dynamos yesterday and are expected to face Bulawayo Chiefs today. Black Rhinos awaits them tomorrow, before they break camp for a week on Monday.

Zimbabwe is in Group A and will face Cameroon in the tournament opener. Burkina Faso and Mali are the other teams in the group.
