ZIMBABWEAN film star Danai Gurira won an award at the recently held Screen Actors Guild Awards held on January 27 2019 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.
The ceremony was broadcast live.
The 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards honours the best achievements in film and television performances for the year 2018 and Gurira won alongside fellow cast members in the best performance by a cast in a motion picture category. The others were Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Michael B. Jordan, Winston Duke, Letitia Wright, Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Kaluuya, Andy Serkis and Chadwick Boseman.
Black Panther is up for six Oscar awards, having being nominated in six categories which are considered “technical” such as Best Picture and Best Costume. Missing are directorial or acting nominations.
The 2019 Oscars will air live on ABC on Sunday, February 24. The movie has grossed US$1,3 billion at the box office to date.
Meanwhile, Black Panther won two Grammy awards at the recently staged 61st annual awards for King’s Dead by hip hop star Kendrick Lamar which won for best rap performance and best score soundtrack for visual media.
