The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) is set to host its highly-regarded annual congress from the June 29 to July 1 at Elephant Hills, Victoria Falls.

The ZNCC 2016 annual congress will run under the theme “Economic Transformation in A New Normal Economy: New Challenges, New Ideas”.

The annual congress will discuss how Zimbabwean businesses can or are adjusting to the transformation of the economy. Participants will have an opportunity to take part in and influence debates through question-and-answer sessions featured in the meeting’s interactive roundtables and panel discussions. The dynamic event covers a range of topics based on the economic transformation that Zimbabwe is going through.

Congress topics

  • Financial inclusion strategy for the informal sector in Zimbabwe;
  • Managing costs in a deflationary environment: Strategies and Opportunities;
  • Survival strategies for industries in a fully dollarised environment: Possibilities and Options;
  • Reforming the Energy Sector: Pragmatic Approach;
  • Corporate leadership Reforms: Changing Mind-sets and Attitudes;
  • After the IMF Staff-Monitored Programme, What’s Next for Zimbabwe?; and
  • Investing in Zimbabwe: Country Risk Perception and Realities.

The forum aims to advance talks on how the Zimbabwean businesses can adjust in the current economy which is slowly becoming the normal economy for Zimbabwe. This event will come up with measures that must be taken to support the growth of small and medium-sized businesses — particularly in emerging economy. Sessions will be led by an eminent line-up of keynote and panel speakers.

In preparation towards the congress, ZNCC is in the process of identifying speakers and panelist for the topics.

Last year the ZNCC annual congress was under the theme “Addressing Competitiveness Challenges in the Emerging Economy”, whereas the following were considered critical action points at the 2015 congress:

  • Addressing Competitiveness Challenges in the Emerging Economy;
  • Addressing Competiveness: How Zimra is playing its role in the process;
  • Addressing the Ease of Doing Business: Progress and Challenges;
  • Dollarisation Challenges and Exit Options;
  • Tapping into the Diaspora: Means and Strategies;
  • Addressing Ease of Doing Business: Swedish Experience;
  • Zimbabwe Economic Outlook; and
  • How Sanctions and Corruption are Impacting on Economic Competiveness

Progress has been made in addressing last year’s theme the government. The government, through our mother ministry, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, has set up a National Competitiveness Commission which is a clear testimony that our congress discussions are taken seriously by the government.

Ease of doing business is an issue which is being handled from an executive level through the Office of the President’s Cabinet (OPC); the legislature is also active in expediting it through the Parliamentary Portfolio Committees on Industry and Commerce as well as the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.

The ZNCC congress is an ideal opportunity for the business community to network and create significant contact to grow their businesses.

The congress is preceded by an annual general meeting where the presidium is elected to office by the members of the chamber. As a chamber, we adhere to corporate governance standards of selecting leadership on a yearly basis guided by the chamber’s constitution.

The ZNCC annual congress is our opportunity to bring together the leading minds and figures in trade finance to discuss, and perhaps even influence, the current economic landscape.

The annual meeting is the go-to event for trade finance professionals, trade experts, banking professionals, business leaders, lawyers and government officials, thus making it a good platform for people to network and make contacts.

The congress will also see ZNCC recognising businesses that would have excelled in the past year. The regional awards finalists are the nominations for these awards

The National Business Awards Ceremony will be held during the Presidential dinner at the same venue in the magnificent Victoria Falls.

Partnership opportunities are still available for the ZNCC annual congress and members of the business community are being invited to partner with the chamber to make this event resoundingly successful.

Congress registrations and booking are already going on at the chamber offices. Interested business people, professionals, diplomats and individuals are being invited to participate at the event. The event is expected to bring together over 150 delegates from different organisations.

A special feature of the 2016 annual congress is the ZNCC sunset cruise in the Zambezi River for the delegates in attendance.
