FC Platinum (1) 2
Chicken Inn (0) 1
Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log leaders FC Platinum consolidated their position after maintaining a perfect record in the topflight with a hard fought victory over Chicken Inn at Mandava Stadium yesterday.
The Platinum miners now under the guidance of Zambian Tenant Chiluba asserted their title credentials by winning their fourth match from as many games.
They moved three points clear of Highlanders who play Motor Action at the weekend.
Despite a red card to Mitchell Katsvairo after 25 minutes FC Platinum took an early advantage courtesy of a goal by Charles Sibanda who capitalised on a blunder by Chicken Inn defender Zephania Ngodzo.
That goal, as chicken Inn coach Mandla Mpofu admitted at the end of the match, unsettled the visitors with the hosts seizing the initiative.
Even after FC platinum were down to 10 men they still dominated possession in the first half and were to double their advantage seven minutes after the break through Ali Sadiki.
But a late surge by Chicken Inn ensured a nervy ending for the hosts with Kuda Mahachi doing all the damage on the left flank.
The talented attacker won a penalty for his team after he was felled in the box in the last minute of regulation time which Tendai Ndoro converted, but it came too late.
Chicken Inn won two quick corners in stoppage time but they failed to take advantage much to the delight of Chilumba.
“I am happy we have collected another three points but we need to keep working hard and we will do that, said Chilumba. “We managed to play well even with 10 men because we worked so much on endurance during the off-season and its working for us now.”
On the other hand Chicken Inn’s Mpofu blamed the result on the first half blunder which gifted the hosts an easy chance.
“After the first goal it was hard to come back into the match, we pressed on later and failed to secure a point but we will go back and work hard for the next game,” said Mpofu.
