Freda Rebecca’s cumulative production for the nine months to 31 December increased 58% to 52,840 ounces, parent company Mwana Africa has reported.
Recoveries for the last quarter were at 80%, while the head grade was lower at 2,51grammes per tonne due to an internal dilution associated with a known waste dyke within one of the main production areas.
Mill throughput was adversely affected by a breakdown of the primary crusher during December.
Repairs to the crusher are underway and expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2013.
In the meantime, the run of mine feed is being diverted through a parallel primary crusher to maintain the mill feed.
At Mwana’s other subsidiary, Bindura Nickel, restart work was in progress in the underground section. Refurbishment of the processing plant was also underway.
During the quarter, underground development restarted at the mine, with a total of 1 337m being blasted and developed.
A total of approximately 7 000 tonnes of ore and waste rock was hoisted, of which 41 000t ore was crushed and stockpiled.
A total of 52,000 tonnes of crushed ore was currently on t
he mill feed stockpiles.
