Fixtures pile-up ahead of Mbada Diamonds draw launches tourney

THE late confirmation of cup competitions in the Castle Lager Premier League has presented a fixtures poser ahead of a packed and potentially thrilling final three months.

Report by Kevin Mapasure
The Mbada Diamonds Cup will be launched today while the Banc ABC Sup8r is also on the calendar.

The league yesterday released a full midweek programme for next week to cover up for this weekend’s matches that were suspended to pave way for national team commitments.

More midweek matches are expected in the league to accommodate the two cup competitions and also the Warriors’ return match against Angola in October.

All teams have 10 league matches left  while the two teams that go all the way in the 16-team tournament will play four more matches. There will also be three more in the Banc ABC trophy.

Teams participating in continental competitions have to register by November 30, meaning the league champions will have to be crowned before then.
The busy programme starts with today’s Mbada Diamonds draw which will  see coaches coming up with new plans for the rest of the season, in terms of player  management to suit all competitions.

Part of the excitement of the Mbada Diamonds Cup is the format of the draw and once again the sponsors and the PSL have made sure it remains a secret.
It will be interesting to see how the draw will be conducted as last year the top eight teams were seeded which resulted in a Harare derby in the first round.
The original format for last term was that the top team would meet the bottom side while the second placed would play the one second from bottom, likewise for the rest.
But that was  changed once information leaked prior to the announcement, but the draw again is almost certain to draw excitement right from the start.
If they were to seed the top eight teams Highlanders could meet Caps, the latter could meet Motor Action while a Bosso Harare City clash cannot be ruled out.
The sponsors have kept everything under wraps, including the prize money and the total sponsorship package.
 Fixtures
Tuesday: Motor Action v Black Mambas, Motor Action Sports Club, Quelaton v FC Platinum, Luveve, Gunners v Buffaloes, Lafarge, Caps United v Hardbody, NSS, Shabanie v Hwange, Maglas and  Blue Rangers v Monomotapa, Gwanzura.
Wednesday: Harare City v Dynamos, Rufaro and Chicken Inn v Highlanders, Luveve.
But after this draw the immediate is another set of league matches where champions and log leaders Dynamos’ four-match winning streak is under threat from Harare City whom they clash with on Wednesday.
For other title aspirants Highlanders, it will not come any easier as they clash with Chicken Inn in a Bulawayo derby at Luveve stadium on Wednesday.
Caps United who picked up their first point since June when they beat Buffaloes last week have a chance to collect full marks when they host Hardbody, the team they last tasted victory against.
