The Young Sables will play two matches against the Pumas’ under-20 team and one against the Leopards’ under-20s starting Saturday at Kees Taljaard Stadium in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.
Young Sables coach, Brighton Chivandire, this week said the three matches would help the technical team in finalising the squad for the Junior World Rugby Trophy.
“As the technical department we are happy that the team has been given a chance to play these matches against some quality teams.
“We will have three tough matches against some tough teams and this gives us an opportunity to try out different combinations. In the end they will definitely test our readiness for the tournament,” said Chivandire.
The former Sables coach also revealed that his team would play more matches during a 10-day training camp in France prior to the tournament.
“I think this year we will be more prepared than we have been in the past. We are likely to have about five competitive matches before the tournament because there is a possibility we will play two more matches during a 10-day training camp in France starting on the first of June.
“The camp will be funded by the IRB courtesy of the Zimbabwe Under-20 committee and Zimbabwe Rugby Union,” said Chivandire.
The Young Sables’ new strength, conditioning coach and scrum expert South African, Nico de Villiers, will also have his first opportunity to see the players in action since recently joining the team’s technical department.
