I READ with dismay in the media last week that South African president Kgalema Motlanthe had advised the MDC to join the government of national unity and deal with the outstanding issues of the agreement thereafter.
I followed his argument with the blank uneasiness which one might feel in the presence of a logical lunatic. Motlanthe should be told that a verbal contract is not worth the paper it is written on –– to borrow the wise words of Samuel Goldwyn.
The MDC wants all the elements of the power sharing agreement to be put into writing. The trouble with unwritten law is that one does not know where to go for recourse if another party fails to respect it.
Do not say you were not warned Morgan!
