It’s A Weird World

CLASS-PROPOSAL: An English schoolteacher was shocked when her boyfriend went down on bended knee to propose to her –– in class.

Matt Pengelly surprised his girlfriend Ann Roberts by creeping into her classroom at Our Lady’s Catholic primary, in Prescot. He then asked her to marry him to the strains of Love is all around as other staff members gathered around to
watch.

Roberts (23) told the Liverpool Echo: “I was just shaking, I was not expecting it at all. It was really special. This is my first class so it meant a lot to me that they took part in it.”

She had no hesitation in saying “yes”, describing Pengelly as her “best friend”.

Roberts said: “I have been in and out of hospital quite a bit and he has been there all the way through. His sense of humour bounces off mine and I just know he is the one.”

The couple, who first met at air cadets when they were 13, have been dating for three-and-a-half years after bumping into each other again on a night out. Pengelly (25) said: “I wanted to do it in a way that would be special to her and I knew she loved her class to bits. She is a fantastic teacher.” –– Ananova.

ONE-ARMED-MAESTRO: A one-armed musician made it to the final of the International Guitar Idol competition in London.

Marc Playle (22) who was born without his lower left arm, beat 750 two-handed rivals from all over the world to reach the final, reports The Sun.

Salesman Marc reached the last 12 of the contest to find the world’s best up-and-coming player. He began playing at 14 and strums using an artificial limb with a guitar pick fixed at the end.

He lost to a Brazilian in the final, but said: “The judges seemed impressed –– one said I was in his top two acts.”

Marc now plans to release an album with his band Minnikin.

“Disability doesn’t have to affect you,” he said. –– Ananova.

BUG-BUSTER: A New Jersey man trying to exterminate insects in his apartment blew it up instead, the New York Daily News reported on Monday.

Isias Vidal Maceda was unhurt in the incident, but 80% of his apartment was destroyed, New Jersey police told the newspaper.

The accident occurred as Maceda was spraying for pests in his kitchen. Somehow the bug spray ignited a blast that blew out the apartment’s front windows and triggered a fire that quickly spread, the newspaper said.

Police told the newspaper that the blaze also caused smoke damage to the apartment above. –– Reuters.

DITCHED-FOR-BARMAN: A bride who got married on a beach in Cuba has dumped her new husband for a barman she met at the wedding. Andrea McMillan (34) says it was “love at first sight” when she clapped eyes on José Miguel, reports The Sun.

She ditched Carl Taylor (30) after flying home to the UK from their £4 000 wedding, then flew back to Havana to be reunited with José weeks later. The pair will marry next month near the four-star hotel in Holguin where Andrea and Carl tied the knot and where Jose worked behind the bar.

Andrea insists she was a reluctant bride and had severe doubts the night before she married Carl. She said: “I cried myself to sleep. I had to down a few pina coladas to go through with it. I told Carl I did not want to marry him but he said it was pre-wedding nerves.

“Our friends had saved to fly out with us so I felt I’d no choice but to do it.”

Andrea, added: “The first time José and I met, it was like we had been hit by a thunderbolt. Carl is a lovely man yet there were never any fireworks. But José swept me off my feet.” –– Ananova.
