French comedian to leave Harare in stitches

WORLD renowned and leading French comedian, Patrik Cottet-Moine, arguably full of an unmatched dosage of humour, will be in the country next week to give two exclusive performances courtesy of

Alliance Française. Nicknamed the “French Mr Bean”, Cottet-Moine will set Harare ablaze on November 15-16 at Prince Edward High school’s music hall.

Based on a visual presentation of Cottet-Moine’s performance skits watched by IndependentXtra, the French sensation’s show promises to be subtle, funny, creative and poetic.

Cottet-Moine brings to life more than realistic personas in humorous situations and has one ambition of “making others laugh seemingly without effort”. A leading Paris tabloid recently said of Cottet-Moine’s shows: “The comical expressions are disconcerting and explosive.Patrik, without uttering a word sets off peals of laughter throughout the theatre.”

The comedian’s website aptly describes the kind of esteem he holds when at work: “This artist is as tall and lean as an electric lamppost and uses his striking physique together with real stage presence in his clever, funny and creative show. With his strong sense of observation and stickler for detail, he brings to life situations using few words but is totally credible at all times.

With gestures as precise as a surgeon, his impossible comical gestures and his sound effects, he portrays the personalities truer than life in comical situations. In this manner, he depicts a fisherman struggling to hold on to his catch, Zorro tangled up in his cape, a policeman trying to hitch a ride, a tennis champion determined to win at any cost.”

Of late international stars have been trickling into the country. Last month a renowned Russian soprano and pianist graced Zimbabwe, followed by another respected Serbian harpist, Jovan Illic, who left Blues fans begging for more following a memorable show at Reps Theatre where he partnered local boys, The Luba Blues Band.
