THE Zimbabwe Junior Golf Association (ZJGA) plans to appeal to the World Championship Board (WCB) over the exclusion of the Zimbabwe team from the World Junior Championships. <
The Zimbabwe junior team came second at the All African Golf Challenge tournament held in South Africa a fortnight ago. The team that comes second qualifies under normal circumstances. However, Zimbabwe was excluded because only six teams participated in South Africa when at least seven were required.
Botswana failed to turn up for the tournament bringing the deficit that has adversely affected Zimbabwe.
ZJGA secretary Lynn Rocher said this week that the association would advocate the inclusion of Zimbabwe at the world championships.
“Our boys played well and deserve to be at the world championships,” she said. “South Africa is a very good side and if this trend continues, they are the only African side that will qualify. Next time other teams fail to turn up the situation will remain the same,” she said.
She also recommended that the team that would have won the African tournament be allowed automatic qualification the following year.
