Leitao to captain Sevens

MASHONALAND Country Districts open-side flank, Jacques Leitao, will captain the Zimbabwe Sevens rugby team on their third successive tour of Europe.

The Cheetahs leave the country for England next week to camp at Hartpury College in London ahead of the Amsterdam and Benido

rm sevens tournaments in Holland and Spain respectively.

Leitao, who plays prop in sevens, is leading the side in the absence of veteran player/coach John Ewing, who is unavailable for the tour. South African-based Tangai Nemadire and Hartpury College’s Daniel Hondo are some of the key players included in the 10-men side named yesterday.

National sevens manager Bruce Hobson said they had brought back experienced sevens player Allan Mdewa to make up for the absence of Ewing.

“We have put young guys like Willis Magasa, Brendan Brider and Tafadzwa Mhende on standby because we are going for experience,” said Hobson. “We hope to have these guys for Kenya (Tusker Sevens) in August.”

Hartpury’s Zimbabwean coach Liam Middleton will coach the side.
