RBZ scouts for forex

Staff Writer

A HIGH-POWERED team from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) is visiting the diaspora to try and entice Zimbabweans to send money home to bail out the ailing economy.

NT face=”Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif”>While no comment could be secured from the RBZ, sources said the team would be visiting South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Canada.

RBZ governor Gideon Gono is understood to be in the UK “talking to some locals”, the sources said.

However, officially it is said the governor is on a private visit.

British MPs have however raised a stink saying the governor should be banned because he is part of President Robert Mugabe’s government, which has been blacklisted from travelling in the West.

There are more than 3,4 million Zimbabweans living in the diaspora for various reasons and the RBZ has decided to entice them to send money home.

Economic commentator Eric Bloch is leading the RBZ team to entice locals in the diaspora to send foreign currency home.

As of yesterday US$10 million is understood to have been sent home so far by the locals in the diaspora.
