LEADING Internet service provider M-Web Zimbabwe has launched new software, Accelerator, which will allow reduced down-loading speeds for its customers.

ana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif”>Mweb general manger Mike Ehret said this product would save customers in terms of reduced times on the Internet.

“The software was designed in such a way that boosts our subscribers downloading speeds, especially for e-mails and also increases the browsing speed,” Ehret said.

He said the software would allow users to avoid pop-up advertisements found several sites.

“This allows the user to avoid getting adverts that are irrelevant to them, especially on international sites,” Ehret said.

When asked about the relevance of the product on the Zimbabwean market, he said the product was proving a success in South Africa.

“Our market is not really different from that in South Africa and it has proved beneficial to subscribers in that country,” Ehret said.

He said the company has, through their South African partners, invested heavily into the project.

“This product was designed in the US and a lot of time and tests were put into it and it has really proved its worth,” Ehret said.”This week we did our own test and it cut down the down-loading speeds of sites such as Microsoft by 50%.

On the issue of the provision of e-mail via television which is available in South Africa, he said the local market was less demanding on such facilities.

“It requires a lot of funds to do that and we have found that our market is only interested in the basics of our products,” Ehret said.

He however noted that the company would be introducing more products to cater for the local market.
