WAYNE Black and Kevin Ullyett will be available for Zimbabwe’s Davis Cup Euro-Africa Zone Group One tennis tie against Italy at the City Sports Centre next month.
Tennis Zimbabwe treasurer Bash Mohamed told IndependentSport this week that the duo have confirmed their participation after missing Zimbabwe’s last tie away to Israel in June.
“Wayne and Ullyett will be available and selectors are working on the selection,” he said.
Mohamed said selectors would forward names to the board after which the final team will be announced.
If Zimbabwe lose the tie scheduled for September 19-21, they will be condemned into the unfashionable Group Two.
Black and Ullyett pulled out of the trip to Israel for personal reasons.
Zimbabwe, led by Genius Chidzikwe, were soundly beaten 5-0 in Tel Aviv in June.
The tie against Italy will give Zimbabwe another bite at the cherry to redeem lost pride.
The presence of Black and Ullyett should give confidence to the team, moreso given the fact that they will be playing at home.
In the absence of Byron Black who has retired, Chidzikwe and Gwinyai Tongoona are likely to complete the Zimbabwean team.
