THE Zimbabwe athletics team for the All-Africa Games in Nigeria in October has commenced camp.
ven of the 16 athletes selected for the Games are already in camp and will have more than a month to prepare for the continental showpiece, a situation described by Athletics Zimbabwe (AZ) as a positive development.
Long distance runner Tendai Chimusasa leads the contingent that includes Abel Chimukoko, Jeffry Wilson, Themba Ncube, Lloyd Zvasiya, Sharon Tavengwa, Kundai Sengudzwa and Sandra Chimwaza, in camp ahead of the continent’s biggest sporting event.
Jonathan Vhezha, the AZ treasurer, who is also the leader of the team for the All-Africa Games, hailed the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee for providing funds for camping expenses.
Marathon runners Michael Ngaaseke and Lewis Masunda, who have been selected for the Games, are currently participating in a number of events in South Africa.
Sprint queen Winnet Dube is participating in the World Championships in France, while Larisa Bakasa and Priscilla Ndebele are in the United States.
