THE Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) interim committee have been granted a request to have their tenure extended by two months.
ZC interim committee chairman Peter Chingoka acknowledged the extension but could not comment on the issue.
However, the move was immediately criticised by stakeholders, who have said they will not recognise the board inside the two months.
The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) in January dissolved the substantive ZC board and appointed the interim committee for six months until the end of June.
SRC director for development, Joseph Muchechetere, who is also the body’s acting chief executive, confirmed the decision to extend the term.
“We have decided to extend their tenure realising their concerted effort to bring normalcy to the game,” Muchechetere told IndependentSport this week.
“We emphasised that whatever measures they are taking, the whole process must be concluded by August 31.”
Muchechetere said the SRC had agreed to keep the interim board in office to allow the union time to conclude their constitutional amendment exercise and the restructuring of provincial associations. — Staff Writer.
