Action back at Police Grounds

Staff Writer

THE last time the Police Grounds in Harare hosted rugby matches was during the heyday of Zimbabwean rugby when a consistently packed stadium witnessed the national team play against top sides in

the world.

The promotion of Police Defenders into the national league this season has given rugby fans a chance to relive old memories as the police side will be using the venue as their home ground. Tomorrow Police Defenders host Harare Sports Club in a northern region national league encounter that the cops are desperate to win after two straight defeats in their first two matches.

However, the biggest match of the week is the clash between holders Old Hararians and Mashonaland Country Districts at OH tomorrow.

The two sides play contrasting blends of rugby which gives local coaches the opportunity to gauge the correct winning formula. MCD rely on holding the ball in their forward pack and driving forward, while OH depend on the speed and skill of their backs.

MCD will look forward to the power of prop Greg Blignaut and lock Paul Georgiou. OH have in their side the impressive centre Leeroy Mashiri, on vacation from college in South Africa.
