By Style Reporter A United States-based philanthropist Chenayi Siachakanzwa has reached out to marginalised communities in Kariba where she is donating stationery, among other goods.
Siachakanzwa (37) through her organisation, Tinovimba Trust, donated stationery to hundreds of learners from from Negande, Nselelo and Malembeja primary schools.
Some of the pupils are learning from makeshift classrooms.
Speaking from her base in Texas, Siachakanzwa said she decided to celebrate her 37th birthday through helping the needy children.
“Tinovimba Trust helps the OVCs and single or widowed women in marginalised communities of Kariba rural areas,” she said.
“As a way of celebrating my birthday this year, I thought of the needy and giving back to my community.
“We helped the orphans and vulnerable children in the Negande area.
“We supplied them with backpacks and stationary.”

She said about 150 pupils benefited.
“These beneficiaries are from the three schools in the area. We also supplied the schools with text books for all grades,” she said.
Siachakanzwa is also paying school fees for close to 20 orphans in the area.
“Our programme focuses on the OVCs whom we select from schools with the help of community leaders and school authorities,” she said.
“We are helping women to start self-help projects like poultry with the hopes of expanding to other communities.”
A number of schools in Kariba and Binga are not conducive for learning with pupils conducting learning under trees and makeshift structures.
“My passion is to see the development of my community and enhance the people from within the community,” she said.
“We want to produce doctors, lawyers, engineers, entrepreneurs and great people from the community. We want to develop the community.
“We are in the process of raising funds to construct proper classrooms for the children.
“My heart bleeds to see the deplorable state of the school.
“The infrastructure is now a danger to the children.”
The philanthropist also hailed gospel musician and preacher Reverend Togarepi Chivaviro for supporting the cause through performing at the fundraising dinner.
