Junior Stars shine at Nomads Stroke Play Majors

The young players showed more than just skill; they showed grit.

At Royal Harare, ZRP, and Wingate golf clubs last weekend, the fairways belonged not to seasoned professionals, but to Zimbabwe’s rising stars. The Mashonaland Junior Golf Association’s Nomads Stroke Play Majors once again proved that golf’s future in the country is both bright and inspiring.

The young players showed more than just skill; they showed grit. Battling shifting weather and the demands of tournament play, they carried themselves with the kind of calm and resilience that belied their years. For many, this was more than just another event — it was also a pathway, a qualifier for the prestigious Faldo Junior Tour, where dreams of international competition begin to take shape.

Among the standout stories was Listiah Bangura (616), who continued her sparkling run of form. Fresh off strong performances in South Africa, she lifted her fifth consecutive Nomads trophy in the 11–14 girls’ division, a feat that speaks not only to her talent but also her consistency. In the older girls’ category, Rosebud Musakasa (622) etched her name on the floating trophy, her victory celebrated with warm applause.

The boys, too, had their moments of triumph. Nathaniel Zidya (554) rose above the competition in the 11–14 division, while Braydon Amm (537) claimed victory among the 15–18 boys, showcasing poise under pressure.

Adding to the occasion was the presence of Nomads Mashonaland honorary members, Denis Tapson and Clever Chikwari, whose support and encouragement were warmly felt. Their involvement, along with that of generous sponsors who ensured a prize table overflowing with rewards, reminded everyone that golf is as much about community as it is about competition.

The Nomads Stroke Play Majors are more than just tournaments. Run by the Mashonaland Junior Golf Association (MJGA) with support from the Nomads Golf Movement, these events are stepping stones — building character, shaping champions, and giving young players a chance to dream big.

And last weekend, those dreams were on full display. Every swing, every putt, every smile told a story of potential — of a generation ready to take Zimbabwean golf to new heights.
