Vincent’s triumph sparks LIV hope

ZIMBABWE golf sensation Scott Vincent is making a strong bid for a swift return to the prestigious LIV Golf League.

His recent emphatic victory at the International Series Morocco has significantly boosted his standing in the rankings, putting him firmly in contention for an end-of-season LIV Golf spot.

Vincent, who was a member of the Iron Heads GC team on LIV Golf for two years after winning the 2022 rankings race, delivered a commanding performance on Royal Golf Dar Es Salam's challenging Red Course, securing a four-shot victory.

This win marks his first since the International Series England in 2022, and he triumphed over a formidable field that included defending champion Ben Campbell of Range Goats GC and 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel of Stinger GC.

Two-time International Series champion Peter Uihlein, a teammate of Campbell, also competed alongside numerous Asian Tour champions.

The 33-year-old had narrowly missed retaining his LIV Golf League place at the close of last season, finishing in the drop zone.

However, his form has been on an upward trajectory this season, with a T5 finish at the Mizuno Open and a T4 at the Kolon Korea Open.

The victory in Morocco was crucial, as the end-of-season rankings champion earned a coveted spot in the LIV Golf League.

"The goal with the International Series is to give yourself a real shot by the end of the year," Vincent said.

"Winning early helps a lot — it gives you more opportunities to perform well going forward. The Series has been great for me. It is how I ended up on LIV Golf a couple of years ago, so I know what it means. This boosts me up significantly, and we’ll see where it leads. There are still a lot of tournaments left,” he added.

This significant win has propelled Vincent to second in the rankings, trailing only Lucas Herbert, the Ripper GC star and International Series Japan presented by Moutai champion.

He has now overtaken Carlos Ortiz and Ollie Schniederjans, winners of the International Series Macau presented by Wynn and International Series India presented by DLF, respectively.

Vincent has six remaining events to surpass Lucas Herbert and solidify his position at the top of the standings.

His upcoming schedule includes the Indonesian Masters (October 2-5), International Series Cambodia presented by Royal Group (October 9-12), International Series Philippines presented by BingoPlus (October 23-26) and the Link Hong Kong Open (October 30–November 2).

The Zimbabwean will complete the year at Moutai Singapore Open (November 6-9) and PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers (November 19-22).

When asked about his ambitions for LIV Golf, Vincent candidly admitted.

“Absolutely — that’s one of the goals. After stepping back last year and evaluating everything, I realised I needed to improve. The focus now is just on getting better, and I believe opportunities such as LIV Golf will come as a result,” he said.

Introduced in 2022 through a landmark investment with LIV Golf, the International Series comprises 10 enhanced events on the Asian Tour schedule.

These events feature elevated prize funds, world-class destinations, and provide a direct pathway to the LIV Golf League for golfers globally.

Now in its fourth year, the series has hosted tournaments across Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East in both established and emerging golf markets.

The 2025 schedule includes events in India, Macau, Japan, Morocco, Indonesia, Cambodia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia.

Previous seasons have also seen events in China, England, Scotland, Qatar, Oman, Thailand, Egypt, and Vietnam.
