The Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) has handed over golf equipment to nine Harare-based golf clubs as part of their long term development initiative - The Legacy Golf Programme.
A total of 40 golf clubs in Zimbabwe are expected programme which kicked off soon after the 2025 All Africa Golf Team Championship which the country hosted late last year.
These golf institutions receive golf equipment for junior development courtesy of R & A and Delta Beverages.
While Bulawayo golf clubs such as Bulawayo Golf Club, Harry Allen and Bulawayo Country Club received golf equipment at the conclusion of the AAGTC, Harare club got their kits at a ceremony held at Country Club on Sunday.
ZGA was represented by treasurer Clyton Kazembe and administrator Tirivashe Nheweyembwa.
"As ZGA has a strategic plan, and one of the key strategic pillars within that plan is golf development. And that golf development is split in two. There's the growth development which involves the amateur social golfers where we are looking to see an increase in the number of people playing golf. Then there's growth development in the sense of identifying individual talents, young talents, golfers, who we want to see playing all the various Tours," Kazembe said.
"That's the second part of the ZGA's growth development strategic plan. In pursuit of this strategic pillar, the ZGA president approached the R & A and they complied by the donating golf sets. There will be around 35 golf sets. () Then ZGA said if we give one set to each club, it won't make an impact. and approached Delta Corporation Zimbabwe who donated
US$10,000 which we used to buy additional 35 golf sets.

So all in all, that's minus 70 golf sets, so that means we can give at least two golf sets to the club.
"As part of our golf development plan at ZGA, we are not only looking at the male golfers we are also looking at the female golfers. We also donated some of the golf sets to the Special Olympics, so we're an all-inclusive association," he added.
The club's who received golf kits include Royal Harare, Borrowdale Brook, Chapman, Country Club, Ruwa, Falcon, ZRP, Wingate and Aspindale.
Newly elected Harare Province Golf Union (HPGU) president Misheck Pondaponda expressed his gratitude to the ZGA.
"I think the gesture, as much as it is most welcome, was a bit overdue. I think the future of this sport lies in our juniors. That's where the future of the sport is. And having to see ZGA take this initiative to donate to our province means a lot in terms of advancing our junior development programmes.
"The clubs in the province have been crying for some time for support for golf clubs. I think two golf kits per club is just a start. We're still hoping that we can get more. But it will still make a change in terms of trying to grow the game in the province," he said.
The new HPGU executive includes two vice presidents Patterson Nyabadza and Engineer Sydney Mashava, treasurer Rodrick Gaka and secretary general Stephen Dzikiti
Ganizani Machai, Justice Udzembwe, Dumisani Mabhena, Theodore Mambonde and Edward Nyemba are the committee members.
ZGA has also secured golf balls from the Zimbabwe Open Committee and they will be distributed in due course.
