Econet bask in Corporate Champions of Champions success

Comprising Washington Mwarewangepo, Rufaro Nelson, Beverly Mberi and Matilda Nengare, the Econet team amassed 156 points to beat 39 other finalists.

The Econet golf team is on cloud nine after winning the second edition of the Corporate Golf Champion of Champions final at Chapman Golf Club recently.

Comprising Washington Mwarewangepo, Rufaro Nelson, Beverly Mberi and Matilda Nengare, the Econet team amassed 156 points to beat 39 other finalists.

BTC Law and Bindura University settled for second and third place respectively.

The individual competitions saw Mwarewangepo emerge the men's winner with 45 points while Tracy Humbira was the best lady golfer on the day with 45 points as well.

A total of 40 teams took part in the final of the relatively new competition.

Econet team captain Mwarewangepo was delighted with the win.

"We are delighted to be champions of this tournament. It's means we don't only rule the airwaves but we also rule the fairways. I would like to thank my teammates for making this possible. I would also like to thank the sponsors of the tournament it's such a unique competition and we can't wait to come back next year to defend our title," he said.

Tournament director Ephraim Mashingaidze expressed satisfaction with success and growth of the second edition of the competition.

" This year we had 40 team taking part in the second edition of the Zimbabwe Corporate Golf Champion of Champions tournament. This time we covered almost every sector in our qualifying tournaments and we are very excited about the level of growth which we have experienced since we began these Zimbabwe Corporate Golf Champion of Champions qualifying events.

“The event is a new concept and people are just beginning to understand it. What we are trying to do is to promote the new norm in golf where we recognize individual golfers and teams. Big organizations such as the LIV Golf League are doing it," he said.

Leading insurance and risk management solutions provider Firstlink Insurance won the the inaugural Zimbabwe Corporate Golf Champion of Champions competition which was held at Royal Harare last year.

Firstlink Insurance won the competition after their four member team put together 136 points on the par-72 course.

There was a three-way tie for second place as the prison wardens ZPCS, Fulllife Open Arms Africa and Bydawell Investments all finished on 135 points.

Stanbic Bank completed the top 5 with 134 points while Support Unit( 133) settled for sixth place.
