The Rotary Clubs of Harare feel the polio awareness and fundraising golf tournament which they hosted at Wingate Park Golf Club last week was a resounding success.
Its goal of the tournament was to raise funds towards the global fight against polio.
Significant progress has been made worldwide and this has been achieved through the commitment and attention that has been paid towards child health. At least 36 players participated and the support received from the corporate sponsors was reassuring.
The good teamwork by the Rotary Clubs of Harare - The Bridge, Harare West, Harare City, Harare Dawn, Highlands and Borrowdale Brooke, with help from other Rotary Clubs, contributed to the success of the event.
“We are encouraged by the support we received from various businesses that responded to our call to action and sent their teams to participate in the charity golf tournament. Other corporate companies supported the initiative by donating in kind towards tournament prizes. We also managed to raise funds through a raffle and an auction of items received from individuals and a couple of other corporates. The funds raised, as promised, will be a contribution by Rotary Clubs of Harare towards a global fund for polio awareness and vaccination projects,” Rotary Club of Harare West President, Patricia Kambarami said.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Dr. Alex Adjagba, Chief of Health and Nutrition at UNICEF Zimbabwe who reiterated the need to be constantly on the alert for pandemics such as polio, and the need to continue to combine effort towards eradicating the virus.
Rotary Club of Harare, The Bridge President, Penelope Guzha, thanked those who participated in making the tournament a success, saying they were buoyed by the funds the golf tournament generated.
The Rotary clubs of Harare have other fundraising events lined up, which include the #EndPolioNow Family Fun Run and Walk scheduled for the 2nd of December 2023.
