Ailing giants clash at BF

Highlanders won the reverse fixture 2 – 1 while CAPS United got their revenge with a penalty shootout win in the Chibuku Cup after a 2 – 2 draw in regulation time.

BULAWAYO giants Highlanders will be hoping to end a run of six matches in the league without a win when they host beleaguered 2016 league champions CAPS United at Barbourfields Stadium this afternoon.

Bosso are enduring a torrid run of poor results in which they have won just one match in their last 10 while they have lost five times during the same period.

They are a pale shadow of the team that went through the entire first half of the league season unbeaten and at one time held a seven-point lead at the top of the standings.

However, they currently sit fourth on the ladder with 48 points from 29 matches

CAPS United on the other hand had a forgettable season where they have flirted with relegation until recent months and are desperate for a respectable finish in the league race with five matches remaining.

The Lloyd Chitembwe-coached side are in eighth place with 37 points, a massive 20 behind log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Only last week, they were knocked from the Chibuku Cup in a semifinal match by bitter rivals Dynamos.

But matches between the two teams have been thrilling this season.

Highlanders won the reverse fixture 2 – 1 while CAPS United got their revenge with a penalty shootout win in the Chibuku Cup after a 2 – 2 draw in regulation time.

Makekepe captain Tonderai Mateyaunga emphasised the need to finish strong.

“I trust the boys are ready. We are over the Dynamos game, we know we lost, we have to try and pick ourselves up again. We have an equally good side like Dynamos so all we have to do now is focus on the Highlanders game and try and make sure we have a respectable finish when we play against Highlanders. The target now is to try and finish in a better position,” he said.

Highlanders’ Rahman Kutsanzira is expecting a tough match against CAPS United.

“It will be a tough game but I will use my experience and the boys will use their energy. I will help them where I can and we will assist each other but they will have to use their energy and I will use my experience. We prepared for this match very well and we are raring to go,” Kutsanzira said.

Highlanders have raised the gate charges to US$3 for the rest of the ground.
