Zimbabwe Republic Police have stopped Harare mayor Jacob Mafume from commissioning Rufaro this morning.
The event was initially set for Saturday before it was moved to Wednesday and then Thursday where it was cancelled on police orders.
Journalists and council officials were driven out if the stadium, which is still under renovations.
Mafume said all was on course for the opening of the stadium which he claimed is 95% complete but received orders from the Mbare Police not to go ahead with the event.
On Wednesday President Emerson Mnangagwa told a Zanu PF campaign rally that the government would renovate the stadium so that Dynamos can return and play its home games there.
