Dynamos wary of bogey Sugar Sugar Boys side

DYNAMOS are a team high in confidence following last week's Harare derby win over CAPS United when they take on bogey side Triangle in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon.

However, their numbers in recent encounters against the Sugar Sugar Boys are a cause for concern.

It is interesting to note that DeMbare have failed to beat the team from the lowveld since July 2017 when they claimed a 2 – 1 win at Rufaro Stadium.

Believe it or not, it has been six years.

Since then, the Sugar Sugar Boys have won three of the last six encounters, but Dynamos will be encouraged that none of the victories occurred in Harare.

Last season, the Glamour Boys lost the first match between the two teams by a single goal while the return leg ended in a goalless draw.

Dynamos have also managed just one goal against Triangle in the last six matches with the last one coming in a one-all draw in August 2019 at Rufaro Stadium.

In fact, Dynamos have genuine reasons to be wary of their opponents today.

Coach Herbert Maruwa is not taking Triangle lightly and is aware that complacency may creep into his players as they seek to build on last week’s big win.

“We managed to win against CAPS United but now we have to shift our attention to the coming game against Triangle. Triangle are playing well. It’s not an easy game. We would need to be at our best to get a positive result. There are no pushovers,” he said.

Triangle are currently sitting in ninth place on the log standings with 10 points from the opening seven matches while Dynamos are in fourth place but the two teams are separated by a single point although the Harare giants have played one game less.

Maruwa believes the team is ready for their bogey side and will still draw inspiration from their victory over CAPS United last week.

“The team is ready for the game against Triangle. I have been telling the boys to make sure we maintain our good run for people to take us seriously. So we aim to win our next game.

“The victory in the Derby helped us in terms of bringing back confidence and obtaining a winning formula after going for the last three games without a win,” he said.

The biggest news for Dynamos this week is that fullback Wilmore Chimbetu is available for selection for the first time since his offseason move from Herentals as his papers were not yet in order.

Triangle, who are under the tutelage of Thulani Sibanda, have blown hot and cold yet their recent run of results is far from encouraging.

They have only won one of their last five matches, recording three draws and a defeat in the process and will be looking for a morale-boosting win over the Harare giants.
