MSU student jailed 9 years for pangolin possession

Munashe Maposa (24) was jointly convicted and sentenced alongside Oswell Chingara (22) by Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo.

A MIDLANDS State University (MSU) student has been sentenced to nine years in jail for illegal possession of a pangolin trophy.

Munashe Maposa (24) was jointly convicted and sentenced alongside Oswell Chingara (22) by Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo.

In her ruling, Moyo indicated that Maposa did not dispute the fact that he accompanied his accomplices to sell the pangolin trophy.

She ruled that the State managed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that both accused persons were found in possession of the pangolin trophy.

Circumstances are that on March 2 in 2022 at around 6am, detectives received information that the accused were in possession of a pangolin trophy.

Detectives laid a trap by pretending to be buyers, leading to their arrest.
