Ousted MRP executive digs in

Moyo was accused of allegedly using hate speech among other charges which were dividing the movement seeking to break away Matabelealand region from the rest of the country.

THE ousted Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) national executive has dismissed the newly-installed interim committee as improperly constituted amid a protracted wrangle to control the secessionist party.

The faction, led by Chilumbo Mudenda and Mbonisi Gumbo, who are seen as the instigators of the coup on executive led by Mqondisi Moyo and his executive, announced the new interim committee on Wednesday last week.

Moyo was accused of allegedly using hate speech among other charges which were dividing the movement seeking to break away Matabelealand region from the rest of the country.

The newly-installed interim structure is led by co-chairpersons Thembisani Mpofu and Mudenda, who have been tasked to organise an elective congress next year.

However, party spokesperson from the ousted group Velile Moyo rubbished claims that they had been deposed, saying the party’s executive structure was still intact.

Declaring that the selected committee will not be recognised, Moyo said: “The MRP is still as it was. We have not chosen any new interim committee. The party constitutionally has not gone through a process of electing new leadership. These are people who are acting outside the ambits of the party constitution.”

He alleged that the new committee gathered in Bulawayo and agreed to topple the party president and the whole executive without following proper procedures.

“They decided to go to the Press conference where they announced that they have dissolved the whole national leadership.

“This is a group of people who decided to come together and act on their own will and resolve issues according to how they wanted to resolve them, not according to the constitution, not according to the mandate of the structures of the party,” he said.

Moyo claimed that party structures were not represented in the meeting where the new interim council was elected.

“It is absolutely null and void. It is just nonsensical for anyone to accept that as reality within the party. These are people who are probably bound to form their own party outside the MRP arrangement. I can simply say that there is nothing true about that, it’s just people acting on their own will,” he said.
