Plumtree immigration officers in trouble

The immigration officers ran out of luck when a tip off was made to police on August 7

Four Plumtree immigration officers are in hot soup after they assisted a Ukraine national to enter Zimbabwe illegally.

Donald Pfungwa Chihowa (35), Tsitsi Mathose (45), Belinda Mudavanhu (33) and Philip Kudada (45), all stationed at the Plumtree Border Post, appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Joshua Nembaware facing charges of abuse of office last Thursday.

According to court papers, sometime in February 2023, the quartet connived and gave Zhdandva Iryna, a Ukrainian national, a Zimbabwean visa without following proper procedures.

"Accused persons in an effort to favour the Ukrainian national or to cover their illicit deal, they date-stamped the documents using a Plumtree immigration border post date stamp, which has its serial numbers hidden to conceal the identity of the immigration officer responsible,” the court heard.

The immigration officers ran out of luck when a tip off was made to police on August 7. They were remanded out of custody to October 17 on $100 000 bail each.
