Zipra identifies 100 seized properties

Zipra’s Nitram properties committee chairperson, Volta Ekem Moyo, said they have submitted the list of properties to the Presidency.

ZIPRA ex-combatants claim to have identified 100 of their properties seized by the Zanu PF government in the 1980s during Gukurahundi.

Zipra’s Nitram properties committee chairperson, Volta Ekem Moyo, said they have submitted the list of properties to the Presidency.

“The board has so far identified about 100 properties and the lists together with the title deeds have been submitted to Vice-President Kembo Mohadi for forward transmission to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for action. The board is still searching for title deeds of some of the properties that are well known to belong to Zipra Nitram company,’’ Moyo said.

Mohadi has been charged with dealing with the matter.

“The committee was mandated to identify all the Zipra Nitram properties around the country, and then the board has been empowered to see to it that the Zipra Nitram properties are returned to their rightful owners,” Moyo said.

“The reclaimed properties would be categorised, into farming, mining, tourism, real estates among others.”

Zipra veterans of the 1970s war of liberation bought several properties across the country with contributions from their demobilisation pay-outs.

Zipra was the military wing of PF Zapu during the armed struggle.

Government seized the properties alleging that it had discovered arms caches at the properties, precipitating the Gukurahundi mass killings.

According to a Zapu inventory, seized party properties include farms and hotels, among them Castle Arms in Bulawayo, Green Haven — a huge entertainment facility along Victoria Falls road — and several residential properties.
