Kadoma distributes hampers to the elderly

THE City of Kadoma has demonstrated its commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society by distributing food hampers to senior citizens and persons with disabilities through the Mayor’s Cheer Fund.

The initiative, aimed at promoting social welfare and inclusivity, saw more than 200 elderly residents from the city’s 17 wards receiving hampers containing essential food items.

The distribution was conducted by councillors in collaboration with the Mayor’s Cheer Fund committee and stakeholders. Beneficiaries were selected based on vulnerability and need.

Speaking during the event, Kadoma mayor Nigel Ruzario said the initiative reflected the power of community and compassion.

The hampers included items such as mealie-meal, rice, cooking oil and other essential groceries, with more than 200 elderly people from the city’s 17 wards benefiting.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying it will go a long way in helping them to meet their basic needs.

Violet Banda (81) said: “I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for this generous gift from the City of Kadoma. The food hamper will go a long way in helping me meet to my basic needs.”

Amosi Sauli (78),said it was good to know that the city cared about the elderly's well-being.

“The food hamper is a welcome relief. I am grateful to the mayor and the city for thinking of us. May this gesture inspire others to do the same,” she said.

The programme will also see institutions such as Tariro Children's Home, Rimuka Old People's Home, Jairos Jiri School for the blind, Rubatsiro Zimcare Trust and Kadoma Training Institute benefiting.

The City of Kadoma's Cheer Fund is a programme aimed at providing support to vulnerable groups, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities and other marginalised communities.

The fund is supported by donations from well-wishers and is managed by the city's social services department.
