School head faces theft charge

Callister Mutsitsiro (60), who heads Rugare Government Primary School, appeared before Harare magistrate Lynne Chizhou who remanded him out of custody to May 23 for trial commencement.

A HARARE school head has been arraigned before the courts after he allegedly helped himself to US$850 in the School Development Committee (SDC) account.

Callister Mutsitsiro (60), who heads Rugare Government Primary School, appeared before Harare magistrate Lynne Chizhou who remanded him out of custody to May 23 for trial commencement.

Prosecutor Tinotenda Masimba alleged that during the period between January and November last year, Mutsitsiro was responsible for receipting project funds from school hall bookings.

The court heard that different churches booked the school hall and paid US$40 per month, but Mutsitsiro reportedly issued receipts from his own receipt book and allegedly forged the signature of Tella Tudu, the SDC chairperson.

The offence reportedly came to light when Tudu discovered the fake receipts issued to a member of churches which booked the hall.

The purportedly stolen US$850 was not recovered.
