Govt document authentication service suspended

THE Foreign Affairs and International Trade ministry has suspended document authentication service due to system upgrade challenges at its bank after the introduction of a new currency last week.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe on Friday last week introduced the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) to replace the Zimdollar leading to disruptions in the money transfer and banking platforms.

In a public notice yesterday, the ministry said the resumption of the authentication services would be communicated as soon as normal banking services were restored.

“The Foreign Affairs and International Trade ministry wishes to advise the general public that it has temporarily suspended its document authentication services due to the disruption of the automated teller machine (swipe) services owing to the ongoing migration from ZWL$ to ZiG in the banking system.

“The resumption of the authentication services will be communicated as soon as normal banking services are restored,” the ministry said.

RBZ governor John Mushayavanhu this week said the new currency would be in circulation from April 30 although some money platforms have not changed from ZWL$ to ZiG.

Most financial institutions were transacting in United States dollars while they are upgrading systems to accommodate the ZiG currency.

The disruptions have also affected several government departments and parastatals that include Registrar General’s office and councils, among others.
