A DARING 21-year-old woman from Norton will perform 208 hours of community service for using a fake Ordinary Level certificate to apply for a police job.

Felicia Maravanyika was initially sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by Harare magistrate Caroline Matanga, who found her guilty of fraud.

Matanga suspended four months of her jail term on condition of good behaviour, and eight months were also suspended on condition that she performs 208 hours of community service.

Police were represented by superintendent Siphosami Tshuma, who is stationed at Police General Headquarters recruiting section. It is alleged that the offence was committed in 2021 during a police recruitment exercise.

Maravanyika purported that she had passed five O-Level subjects and tendered a fake O-Level certificate to the police in Mhondoro.

Her application was considered and placed on the recruitment waiting list.

The certificates were sent to the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council for verification, and it was discovered that the certificate was fake, leading to her arrest.
