PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe accused the country’s independent media of supporting what he described as the MDC formations’ misguided attempts to block the holding of general elections next week.
Mugabe said the media was supporting the MDCs, who despite their pretentions to democracy, opposed elections because they want to continue enjoying the trappings of power in an inclusive government even though some of them were never elected into office.
The journalists support these errors. What is the conscience of the journalists,” Mugabe asked. “The journalists must have a conscience; a sense of truth and sense of honesty.”
Meanwhile, the First Lady Grace Mugabe revealed that Mugabe was behind the controversial decision by Local government minister Ignatius Chombo to write-off ratepayers’ debts accumulated from 2009.
She denied that it was an election gimmick but insisted it was testimony of Mugabe’s caring and fatherly disposition.'
