More than 100,000 Americans have petitioned the White House to allow their states to secede from the US, after President Barack Obama’s re-election.
Report by BBC.co.uk
The appeals were filed on the White House’s We the People website.
Most of the 20 states with petitions voted for Republican Mitt Romney.
The US constitution contains no clause allowing states to leave the union. By Monday night the White House had not responded.
In total, more than 20 petitions have been filed. One for Texas has reached the 25,000-signature threshold at which the White House promises a response.
‘Blatant abuses’
The last time states officially seceded, the US Civil War followed.
Most of the petitions merely quote the opening line of America’s Declaration of Independence from Britain, in which America’s founders stated their right to “dissolve the political bands” and form a new nation.
Currently, the most popular petition is from Texas, which voted for Mr Romney by some 15 percentage points more than it did for the Democratic incumbent.
The text complains of “blatant abuses” of Americans’ rights.
It cites the Transportation Security Administration, whose staff have been accused of intrusive screening at airports.

Shame. This world! Now that the dragon is breaking apart-or is being broken apart by the beast who had given it strngth to persecute nations, what shall be said? Isn’t this the dawn of freedom from a self-proclaimed world policeman? Why don’t these folks track back to Britain and leave the Injuns and Eskimos with their country? Breaking up because of gross traversty of the rights of Americans? Rights indeed? Did they give the injuns any rights when they bucthered them for their country? You won’t be surprised to foind that some of those rights include gays and lesbians’ marrigaes! These blood questing satanists
@yoo – who told the injuns it was their country? there was no nation state – just injuns running aound aimlessly
Have ever thought about it that it is not fair for one culture to see the concept of ‘the state’in their own eyes … and extend it to other cultures. Ethnocentrism at its worst is what it is! This kind of mentality takes a central place in the prejudiced mindset of colonialists. It is no doubt the root-cause of most conflicts that have been, and a cause of a lot of the injustices that have plagued our world.
Needless to say, one needs to free themselves from such recklessly inconsiderate, selfish, self-centred, warped and conceited approaches to issues in general and this world will be a much better place.
@sender52,- one thing you should realize my friend is that God placed people geographically within this world and hence you see the asians in asia, africans in africa etc. there may not have been nation or country yet, but the injuns were rightly running around aimlessly in their God give territory. the reason why we are having tumoil in the world today if you look at it closely, is that after the folks, as yoo call them, tracked to and occupied the land of the injuns and exploited all the resources available, they still look to other geographical spheres, not to leave america and come to occupy them, but to cause destabilisation and seek a way to penetrate so they can plunder resources for their own interest.
Anyway, back to the main issue, the idea of other states seeking to secede from the confederacy sounds like a call for devolution which Ncube has of late been calling for in this nation and you can see for yourselves what results it brought when the US tried it in the past
hello,my friend,how are you
