Speaking from his South African base, Chamuka said the aim of this address is to discuss the importance of uniting the ruling party, Zanu-PF, and willing opposition parties in order to prioritize the interests of the citizens and work towards a better future for the country.

The president of Zimbabwe's opposition People's Unity Party (PUP) announced yesterday that a public address will be held on December 20th, 2023, to talk about the importance of forming a Government of National Unity (GNU).

Speaking from his South African base, Chamuka said the aim of this address is to discuss the importance of uniting the ruling party, Zanu-PF, and willing opposition parties in order to prioritize the interests of the citizens and work towards a better future for the country.

Chamuka also said that, rather than focusing on the failures of the ruling party or the opposition, the address will focus mainly on the potential benefits that a GNU can bring.

Chamuka believes that a GNU can effectively improve the lives of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation.

"We invite anyone who is willing to attend the address on December 20th at a venue in Harare, to be communicated later," the PUP president stated. "This is our country, and as citizens, we hold the power to shape our own future."

"The aim is to prioritize the interests of the citizens, with a shared goal of a better future for our country.

"Rather than dwelling on the failures of Zanu-PF or the opposition parties, the address will delve much into the potential benefits that a GNU can bring, ultimately improving the lives of all citizens.

"We invite anyone who is willing to attend the address on December 20th at a venue in Harare, to be communicated later. This is our country, and as citizens, we hold the power to shape our own future," he said.

Chamuka's call for a GNU draws inspiration from past experiences.

The formation of a GNU in 1987 was credited with contributing to economic growth, and a similar alliance in 2009 also yielded positive results.

Considering the current drastic deterioration of Zimbabwe's economy, Chamuka strongly advocates for a GNU government as the best solution to enhance the livelihoods of its citizens.

"Considering the current drastic deterioration of our economy, advocating for a GNU government is the best solution to enhance the livelihoods of our citizens," Chamuka added.

The address will serve as a platform to discuss the challenges Zimbabwe faces and the ways in which a united government can strategically overcome them.

Chamuka further elaborated that he hopes the address will pave the way for collaborative efforts and a shared vision for the country's growth and development.
