Local philanthropic organisation, Higherlife Foundation has partnered the ministry of Health and Child Care in fighting the cholera outbreak, which is currently ravaging the country and has claimed over hundreds of lives.
Higherlife is part of the country’s Cholera Elimination Secretariat chaired by the ministry of Health and led by a national taskforce.
In an interview during the organisation’s latest cleanup campaign in the Harare central business district last week, Higherlife chief finance officer Patience Mutizwa said they were spurring up efforts in-line with the country’s goal to eradicate cholera by 2028.
“What we have done is to partner with the ministry of Health (and) we have gone on to assist them in securing test kits which are being used in this fight against the disease. We have also been involved insponsoring material which is to promote awareness of what cholera is, how it spreads and how it can be managed,” said Mutizwa adding that they were also supplying water treatment chemicals.
“This speaks to our overall vision of eradicating cholera and really answers some of the social and health problems that Zimbabwe is currently facing.”
Highlife has initiated a nationwide campaign against the spread of the deadly disease albeit paying special attention to hotspots like Buhera in Manicaland and Harare province.

According to Mutizwa, the clean-up campaign in Harare, which saw gospel musician Janet Manyowa, City of Harare, University of Zimbabwe students and the foundation’s fellows taking part, is one of many to come.
“We have always been taking part in cleanups but ever since Harare has been declared to be in a state of disaster, we will be heavily involved and participate in cleanup campaigns every month,” she said.
