WAICA Re expands brand visibility

WAICA –RE Zimbabwe last week extended a Honda Fit gesture to the Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe( IIZ) as part of solidifying partnerships while buttressing brand visibility. The
gesture coincides with the group’s 10th year anniversary. Senior business reporter Melody Chikono (MC) caught up with the CEO Wilberforce Machimbidzofa (WM) to discuss the company’s two year journey in Zimbabwe.

Below are the excerpts of the interview:
MC: I understand it is the Waica Re corporation’s 10th year anniversary. Can you take us through the operations and your motive as Waica Re Zimbabwe.
WM: WAICA Re was set up by the West Africa Insurance Companies Association (WAICA) Since then it has setup its head office in Sierra Leon and representative offices in Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Tunisia and now in London. After that, it established subsidiary offices in Kenya and now in Zimbabwe.

So the Zimbabwean officece is almost two years old and starting as the smallest reinsurance company with 0.24 share percentage of the market. As at September 2020 according to the Ipec Q3 report, Waica Re had grown to top two with just over 25% share of the market That has been an awesome development over a very short period of time and I think it is curtesy to the good brand recognition of Waica Re as a group and the support we have received from the head office in the drive to become one of the largest players on the continent .
