Premier League 2020/21: Manchester City victory over Everton marks new Premier League record

Manchester City are absolutely smashing it this season, and it seems they are extremely likely to win this year’s Premier League title. They retain the top position in the table with 56 points to their name – 10 points ahead of Manchester United, who lie in second place. Top contenders and defenders of the title, Liverpool, are now out of the race, and the Blues seem unstoppable. With a talented and skilled team including players such as Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez, there is an abundance of goals coming from the squad.

Unsurprisingly, according to Sportingbet, the 2020/21 campaign is the highest-scoring season in Premier League history. Looking at the way the Blues are progressing, we can certainly vouch for this.

Their most recent victory against Everton has confirmed speculation regarding the Premier League title: the Blues are going to win it this year. If they manage to bag some silverware, it will be their third Premier League title in four seasons. Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva all scored at Goodison Park, securing the Blues another win. Everton boss, Carlo Ancelotti, was overwhelmed by the opponent’s performance and claimed it was “almost impossible” to beat the Blues.

“I think so, it is really difficult to say another name,” Ancelotti claimed when asked if Everton had lost to the team that will become champions.

“It was hard, almost impossible. At the moment, they are the best team. They have quality, power, belief.

“It is very difficult to compete with them.”

Although the Toffees attempted to produce a sturdy resistance and become the first team since West Brom to challenge Guardiola’s side, they were simply no match for City’s exceptional squad.

The Algerian winger, Riyad Mahrez, was in especially good spirits after the game, and why wouldn’t he be? He put a stunning performance, was integral to the Blues success with his 63rd-minute goal and incisive touch to Silva’s goal, and allowed Manchester City to retain their ten straight Premier League wins record. He was also extremely pleased with teammate Bernardo Silva.

“We tried to pass and move to find space to score the goal,” Riyad stated.

“We [himself and Bernardo Silva] have always had a good connection, we don’t even need to speak to each other we know where we are. We all know each other. We train so well we know the movement. When you keep winning and scoring goals, the confidence grows. It is difficult for the opponent.”

“It was a good performance, we played good again. It is a shame to concede the goal in the first half, but we haven’t conceded many.”

“We are in a very good moment.”

“I don’t know about the title we only think about the next game —Arsenal.”
