RETIRED Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku has died. He was 70.
Chidyausiku died on Wednesday afternoon at a South African hospital where he was admitted.
Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who also heads the Ministry of Justice, confirmed the death of the former Judicial Service Commission chairperson.
“I have just received the sad news. He died about two hours ago,” said Mnangagwa.
Asked whether Chidyausiku will be declared a national hero, Mnangagwa said he could not comment on that, adding that it was a decision which needed the input of President Robert Mugabe who is in South Africa attending the 27th edition of the World Economic Forum on Africa.
The Zimbabwe Independent reported in March that Chidyausiku was unwell. He was admitted to the Avenues Clinic in Harare before seeking treatment in South Africa.-Wongai Zhangazha
