Twenty-year-old young Warriors midfielder Marvelous Nakamba has signed up for top Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem after impressing on trial.
However, Knowledge Musona’s European dream is still in limbo. the striker is now likely to be heading back to South Africa. Nakamba, together with Costa Nhamoinesu at Sparta Prague, will be Zimbabwe’s ambassadors in top European Leagues.
The signing was confirmed on Wednesday by Vitesse’s technical director Mohammed Allach who said: “From day one, he had the right attitude and mad a great impression on the soccer field. We are pleased to have rewarded him with a contract,” said Allach.
The former Bantu Rovers player signed for Vitesse who finished 6th in the Eredivisie last season on a four-year contract from French Ligue 2 side Nancy.
The destination for most Zimbabwean players has been South Africa and Musona might have been left to rue the ill-advised decision to turn down some European clubs in favour of Kaizer Chiefs last year. His dream of returning to either Germany or another top European league might have been shattered with Chiefs announcing they had captured him.
“We think everything is clear, Knowledge is on his way back. He’ll give us a few more options, another dimension,” Baxter revealed after their 2-1 win over Black Aces on Wednesday night.
But media reports yesterday claimed there was an offer from another club in Europe that could scupper the Chiefs proposed loan deal.
Kaizer Chiefs supporters have been desperate to see Musona’s return confirmed while Zimbabwean football fans have been hoping he gets a club in Europe.
German side TG Hoffenhiem has told the player that he has no future at the club and a trial stint at Granada did not yield a positive outcome.
After enduring two tough seasons in the Bundesliga, TG Hoffenhiem Harry Redknapp had offered Musona an escape route at the then championship side, but Musona surprisingly chose Chiefs hoping to make a fresh start and later on return into Europe’s top flight leagues.
On the other hand, Nakamba will be playing on the big stage in the Eredivisie, having spent a year in France’s Ligue 2.
Nakamba, however, impressed during his trials where he featured in pre-season friendlies, including the match against Chelsea. — Staff Writer.
